The expansion and modernization project for the Marx-Dormoy school in Narbonne, costing €1.7 million including tax, is complete. The final touches made during the summer have allowed 90 students, divided into four classes, to be welcomed since the September back-to-school period. This project, supported by the State and the Department of Aude, was designed to meet the needs of children and the accompanying educational teams.
The new spaces are more functional and adapted to pedagogical practices, including a new library dedicated to learning and discovery. The project has also improved other moments of the students' day with a new 50-place school restaurant, larger and soundproofed, a new dormitory for the youngest, and a redesigned outdoor courtyard.
The reception of children, families, and staff has been facilitated by a new central hall and new restrooms. A dedicated room and office for the After-School Activity Center (ALAE) also allow for better coordination between school and extracurricular time. Teaching staff also benefit from a refurbished teachers' lounge.
A time capsule, containing drawings, photographs, and poems from the students, was placed under the new courtyard's covered area last February, bearing witness to their daily lives and intended to be rediscovered in several decades.
The construction work, lasting from October 20, 2025, to August 2026, required an investment of €1.7 million including tax. The operation received €124,541 in state subsidies and support from the Department of Aude. The school accommodates 90 students in 4 classes, two of which are in use this year, and the new school restaurant has 50 places.
