The City of Narbonne has entrusted the management of its future crematorium to Crématoriums de France for a period of 28 years. This facility aims to provide families with a dignified, peaceful, and accessible place of remembrance, meeting a growing demand from the local population.
Construction is in its final stages. The gable facade of the former wine-making building has been preserved. The main structural work for the two key buildings – the family reception area and the technical building – is complete. The installation of exterior joinery in early October marks a new phase, allowing second-fix teams to continue interior fitting once the buildings are enclosed.
The cremation apparatus will be delivered on October 19th. Interior finishing, including coverings and painting, will continue throughout the autumn, with completion scheduled before Christmas.
The crematorium will feature a ceremony hall capable of accommodating up to 150 people, a dedicated space for urn collection to facilitate more intimate moments of remembrance, a lounge area for relatives to gather and share refreshments after the ceremony, and a dispersion well for ashes set within a landscaped garden.
Externally, the garden of remembrance is taking shape, with structural work to be completed by mid-October. Planting is scheduled from mid-November to mid-December. Parking areas, roadways with shade structures, and stabilized ground pathways will conclude the project in early January 2027.
Crématoriums de France, a brand of the Funecap group, specializes in crematorium management across France. With 70 sites and 14 under construction, the company supports over 75,000 bereaved families annually.
