Nearly 300 fire professionals, from 28 French departments as well as Spain and Mexico, gathered in Millau until October 22 for the 35th meeting of the Integrated Fire Employment Network.

Following an unprecedented summer marked by record temperatures and extreme drought, these days aim to foster exchanges and experience sharing among firefighters, foresters, farmers, elected officials, environmentalists, academics, students, and researchers. Fire risk now affects the entire territory, including Millau.
The Aveyron department saw a 139% increase in firefighter interventions in 2026, with two major fires devastating 483 hectares. The departmental controlled burning unit, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is particularly highlighted during these meetings held at the Millau town hall. This preventive burning technique is considered effective in combating flame propagation, especially in hard-to-access areas. Members of this unit were also mobilized this summer in the Landes and Gironde regions.
The Millau Grands Causses inter-municipal community actively participates in the DFCI Massif Plan of the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park. This plan aims to coordinate efforts by improving existing infrastructure like DFCI tracks and creating new facilities, such as strategic water points. The inter-municipal territory is also subject to legal brushwood clearing obligations (OLD), for which the community provides two agents to advise property owners.
