The Maison du Peuple Theatre in Millau is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the launch of its 2026-2027 season, promising nearly 90 curtain raisings. The anniversary program emphasizes diversity in shows and disciplines, ranging from dance to comedy, theatre to circus. A key feature, the artistic and cultural education component, will be significantly enhanced with in-depth work involving school audiences.
The season will begin with a journey around the world, including the return of the Compagnie Circus Baobab with their show Yongoyély on November 7, two years after their performance of Yé (L’eau). This production, led by a collective of women, will showcase physical and technical prowess to celebrate Guinean female independence. World music will also be featured, notably through concerts co-produced by Millau en Jazz, such as those by Joao Selva and his Brazilian music. François Leyge, Deputy Mayor for Culture, highlights that "This season irrigates the Community of Communes through partnerships woven across the territory".
The theatre aims to create moments of connection and sharing. A tailor-made school program, social cohesion projects, public space interventions, workshops, guided tours, and suspended tickets are planned to facilitate access to performing arts. "A season to celebrate live performance, with an audience that has never been so present," states Stéphane Chatelard, Director of the Maison du Peuple Theatre.
A special event for families, titled La Cabane, will take place on April 23 and 24. Aimed at families and groups, it will feature theatre and rock music for children, with the program to be revealed in February. This event will offer a three-tiered ticketing system, including a solidarity rate.
The local company Les Boudeuses, known for its sharp and feminine style, will be in residence for two years. Specializing in theatre, street arts, and biting humor, the company will perform several times throughout the season, including their "Hits" where they collect residents' stories before staging them (November 15, March 19-21, May 15). They will also work on their next creation, la Gerbe (October 19-23 and January 4-8, 2027).
The 2026-2027 season will feature 43 shows, 74 performances, and 30 school sessions. The theatre, designated a Scène Conventionnée d'Intérêt National by the Ministry of Culture, has a capacity of 500 seats and has reached 35,000 people through its activities. The public presentation of the season will be held on Friday, October 2 at 7 PM at the theatre.
