The Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais Cathedral, a historic monument in Lectoure, is the focus of a new large-scale restoration project. A witness to the city's history for almost a millennium, the building requires comprehensive interventions to preserve its architectural and artistic heritage.
Over the centuries, the cathedral has weathered wars and transformations, benefiting from regular maintenance work. However, recent interventions on the roofs, facades, and stained glass have not been sufficient to meet all the building's needs. Time has left visible marks on some weakened stones, the roofs and stained glass require new renovations, and the interior decorations need to be restored and enhanced.
This ambitious project will cover the facades, roofs, bell tower, stained glass, chapels, and interior decorations, also including the modernization of electricity and lighting. The goal is to restore the cathedral to its full splendor and ensure its longevity for centuries to come.
Beyond preserving the stones, this restoration aims to protect collective memory and transmit to future generations a place rich in history. The municipality invites citizens to participate in this effort to allow the cathedral to continue telling its story.
