The municipality of Lectoure has initiated a process to survey cracks and other damage affecting properties in the area. This initiative responds to the drought conditions observed in recent months and aims to assess the potential consequences of soil shrinkage and swelling on buildings.
Soil shrinkage and swelling, a natural process influenced by moisture variations, can cause ground movement. During drought periods, clay soils retract, potentially leading to cracks or damage in buildings.
Residents of Lectoure are encouraged to report any new or worsening cracks on their property to the town hall, along with any other damage potentially linked to the drought. This survey will help establish an overview of reported issues within the municipality.
It is specified that this survey process does not constitute an official recognition of a natural disaster state and does not prejudge future decisions by state services.
In parallel with reporting to the town hall, affected residents are advised to notify their insurance company without delay. It is recommended to take photographs of the damage, note the approximate date of appearance or worsening of cracks, and keep all relevant documents related to the steps taken.
To submit their file to the town hall, residents can use email, postal mail addressed to the Lectoure town hall, or drop off documents in person. The file should ideally include the applicant's name and contact details, the address of the property concerned, a detailed description of the observed disorders, the approximate date of appearance of the cracks, and photographs illustrating the damage.
