In Fenouillet, a major step in the Northern Toulouse Railway Developments (AFNT) was completed on September 10th, 2026, with the sliding of the new Tournelle bridge structure. The bridge remains closed to traffic until October 5th to allow for the continuation of works.
These AFNT, part of the South-West New Line (LNSO), aim to increase the capacity of the railway network between Toulouse and Saint-Jory to support the development of daily commuter trains and prepare for the future new line. In Fenouillet, the new structure will accommodate two future railway tracks and will include a cycle path.
The sliding operation, which involves constructing the structure nearby before moving it, mobilized approximately 1,800 tonnes of material, including 720 m³ of reinforced concrete and nearly 100 tonnes of reinforcement bars. Around 6,000 m³ of excavation was required. This significant operation is being carried out by SNCF Réseau and its partners.
Several interventions remain to be completed after the sliding, including network adaptation, embankment reconstruction, creation of the cycle path, and road surface reconstruction. Diversion routes are proposed for motorists, while bus lines 59, 113, and the Fenouillet shuttle maintain adapted routes. Pedestrians and cyclists also have a substitute itinerary.
