On Tuesday evening, October 20th, a fire broke out near the church in Fenouillet, between the religious building and the communal cemetery. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of this event, with the municipality currently having no information on its origin.
The City praised the responsiveness of the residents present, the parish priest, as well as the rapid and professional intervention of the firefighters and the gendarmes from Castelginest. The office of the prefect of Haute-Garonne also contacted the municipality to offer support.
The fire destroyed part of the fir trees bordering the cemetery and damaged the roof structure of a room adjacent to the church. As a precaution, the building will be closed to the public for approximately three days for technical checks and security. The municipality's insurance has already been contacted for an expert assessment.
With All Saints' Day approaching, the municipality is committed to ensuring access to the communal cemetery on November 1st under the best safety conditions. The City of Fenouillet states it remains fully mobilized for the preservation and restoration of this heritage building.
Anyone with information useful to the investigation is invited to contact the gendarmerie services.
