The City of Lourdes is reviewing its operation to control stray cats, launched in 2025. To date, 124 cats have been sterilized and identified, thanks to the collaboration of partners and citizen involvement.

Since 2025, the municipality of Lourdes has been conducting a large-scale operation to identify and sterilize stray cats, aiming to limit their reproduction and improve animal welfare. The current assessment shows 79 cats sterilized and identified in 2025, and 45 in 2026.
To carry out this initiative, the municipality has partnered with recognized organizations such as the Brigitte Bardot Foundation and the association 30 Million Friends, which have contributed to the funding of sterilizations. Agreements have also been signed with animal protection associations and the Biscaye veterinary clinic, responsible for medical procedures. Residents play a crucial role by reporting stray cats to the municipal police.
The reporting process involves residents contacting the Municipal Police in writing. Following this, the gamekeepers contact the requester and provide a capture cage. Once the animal is caught, the person obtains a voucher from the municipal police service and then transports the animal to the veterinary clinic. The animal is then sterilized, identified by an ear tattoo, and treated if necessary, before being released at its capture location.
To report a stray cat, Lourdes residents can contact the Municipal Police at 05 62 44 67 87, Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 12 PM and from 2 PM to 5:30 PM, or visit them at 48, avenue du Maréchal Foch.
