The American tradition of Halloween, celebrated on October 31st, is taking on a new dimension in Castelnau-le-Lez. For the first time, the municipality, under the initiative of Mayor Julien Miro, is organizing its own celebration to mark this global cultural event.
The evening will begin at 5:30 PM on the Place de la Liberté with the distribution of lanterns. Starting at 6:30 PM, a procession led by participants and their lanterns will depart from the Place de la Liberté to the Kiasma. From 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, a DJ will provide the atmosphere in the Lagoya hall of the Kiasma. A food stall will also be available on the Kiasma's forecourt for attendees.
The origins of the Halloween celebration trace back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated over 2000 years ago. This night marked the end of summer and the beginning of winter, a period when the veil between the world of the living and the dead was believed to thin. Traditions evolved over time, incorporating Christian influences such as All Saints' Day, celebrated on November 1st.
Iconic elements of Halloween include the carved pumpkin and costumes. It's an occasion to gather, share moments of laughter, and let imagination run wild, whether one chooses to dress up as a ghost, witch, superhero, or zombie.
