Led by the Agglomération du Pays de l’Or, in partnership with the educational teams of both institutions, this collective challenge invites middle schoolers from La Grande-Motte and Mauguio-Carnon to become agents of ecological transition through several months of activities, discoveries, and concrete actions focused on waste reduction and environmental preservation.
Throughout the 2026/2027 school year, students will address questions about reducing waste at school and giving it a second life, through a program of fun and participatory activities. The challenge will begin on November 3rd at the La Grande Motte college and on November 5th at the Mauguio-Carnon college, with an initial objective: to assess the waste generated in each institution and collectively brainstorm solutions for reduction.
Students will deepen their knowledge and take action through numerous activities: site visits including the composting platform and the OCTAV educational trail in Lunel-Viel, exhibitions, awareness workshops, the Junior Waste Fresco, 'Do It Yourself' (DIY) reuse and upcycling workshops, book exchanges, waste clean-up on La Grande-Motte's Couchant beach, and the Digital Clean Up Day.
A conference on environmental careers and creative workshops, including a fresco on the life cycle of sports equipment, will explore future initiatives. A convivial closing event is scheduled for April 29th, 2027, at the headquarters of the Agglomération du Pays de l’Or.
Beyond awareness, this inter-college challenge aims to encourage students to adopt new practices and become true ambassadors for waste reduction, both within their schools and at home. The Agglomération thus wishes to embed this initiative for the long term.
