Les Matelles, like the entire Hérault department, has been placed under an orange alert for rain and flooding since 2 PM this Monday, October 19. Two particularly intense rain episodes are anticipated: the first from 4 PM to 8 PM, and a second around 1 AM to 2 AM.
In response to this situation, the municipality has implemented several precautionary measures. The media library will be closed to the public this afternoon. Parents have been asked to pick up their children from the leisure center as soon as possible, calmly and without taking risks. The town hall has stated that if the alert level is raised to red before the leisure center closes, children will remain safely on-site, supervised by staff.
Municipal services are also affected: employees whose presence is not essential for crisis management are authorized to return home from 2 PM onwards, while necessary teams remain mobilized.
An important reminder concerns parking: it is prohibited from 2 PM in the following areas: Place du Lirou, Place de la Vierge, and the Boulodrome. Vehicles must be removed from these sectors.
The town hall of Les Matelles will use its Facebook page as the primary communication channel to provide updates on the evolving situation and any new instructions. The municipality urges the utmost vigilance, advises residents to anticipate travel, avoid driving during the most intense periods, and never drive through flooded roads.
