Due to the increase in clay shrinkage-swelling phenomena, the City of Mèze wishes to survey damages observed in 2026. The goal is to evaluate the opportunity to initiate a request for natural disaster status recognition with the state services.
To receive insurance compensation for a natural disaster-related incident, the procedure requires the municipality to submit a request to the state services. The final decision will be made by decree from the Ministry of the Interior. The municipality plans to submit this request in January 2027, provided that the number of cases is significant enough for the application to be studied and result in Mèze being recognized as a natural disaster area for the period of January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
If your home has suffered material damage, such as cracks, you must send an email to Monsieur le Maire at secretariat-maire@ville-meze.fr. The email should include a brief description of the incident and the damage caused, illustrated with photographs (no more than 3), along with your precise and complete contact details: postal address, phone number, and email.
It is important to note that you must declare the incident to your insurance company before contacting the Mayor's office. If the Interministerial Commission decides to recognize it as a natural disaster in 2027, you will be contacted very quickly by the town hall services, as there is only a 10-day period to submit the complete file to your insurance company.
The City does not control the timelines between the municipality's submission to the prefecture and the opinion of the Interministerial Commission.
