The Fernand Brunel sports complex in Lunel was the scene of a significant event on October 31st, celebrating the return of a commemorative plaque dedicated to the international footballer Fernand Brunel. Before the match between the football teams of Lunel and Sète, a ceremony was held to honor the memory of this iconic player.
Laurent Grasset, Deputy Mayor for Sports, represented Paulette Gougeon, alongside municipal councilor Marc Valentin, Gallia President Pascal Martin, and Thibault Casanova. It was during his research for a book on Fernand Brunel that Thibault Casanova rediscovered this plaque, originally installed in Sète. The Sète football club, following Brunel's Gallia team, who passed away in 1927, wished to return this plaque to the city of Lunel.
The plaque, which had been stored at the technical services of the City of Sète, has now found its place at the entrance of the sports complex that bears Fernand Brunel's name. His story is thus engraved in stone and passed on to future generations.
