Following two successful editions, the biennial event organized by the Pôle d’Equilibre Territorial et Rural (PETR) Grand Quercy and the PETR Figeac Quercy Vallée de la Dordogne was a great success in Boissières. This fair aims to foster exchanges between forestry professionals and local residents.
60 exhibitors, including forest managers, forestry work companies, sawyers, artisans, wood energy professionals, training organizations, and associations, were present to showcase their professions, expertise, and current challenges.
This free and friendly event highlighted the major challenges facing forests: adaptation to climate change, preservation of biodiversity, reduction of fire risk, production of a renewable material essential for the decarbonization of the economy, and support for a local industry creating non-relocatable jobs.
Beyond traditional demonstrations such as logging and mobile sawing, the program was enhanced with activities for families, including wooden games, tree climbing, and musical shows. A notable new feature was the radio round tables hosted by Antenne d’Oc Cahors, addressing societal issues related to forests and wood, which will be broadcast soon.
The 2026 edition spanned two days. Friday, October 2, was dedicated to professionals and schoolchildren. Primary, middle, and high school students discovered silviculture and forestry professions through demonstrations and fun activities, showing great enthusiasm to return with their families the next day.
Concurrently, workshops allowed professionals to discuss the attractiveness of the trades, land fragmentation, industry structuring, and risk management. These discussions, co-hosted by PETR Grand Quercy, Figeac Quercy Vallée de la Dordogne, and Fibois Occitanie, aim to collectively identify solutions for the sector's adaptation.
The organizers extend their warm thanks to the municipality of Boissières for its welcome, as well as to the partners and volunteers. The next edition is scheduled for 2028 in the territory of the PETR Figeac Quercy Vallée de la Dordogne.
