The young elected officials of the CMEJ from Canet-en-Roussillon traveled to Paris from October 19 to 21. Wearing their green caps, they represented their town and had the opportunity to visit emblematic sites such as the National Assembly and the Senate, a first experience for most of them.
During their visit to the National Assembly, they were welcomed by deputy Anaïs Sabatini, who presented them with a notebook. They toured the rooms of the Palais-Bourbon, including the hemicycle. In the afternoon, Senator Lauriane Josende introduced them to the Senate and its workings. They were able to attend a parliamentary session for about ten minutes, focused on the repeal of the Black Code, offering a concrete immersion into French democratic life.
This trip allowed the young residents of Canet to better understand the functioning of the Republic's institutions and to connect their commitment within the CMEJ with their discovery of the capital. The itinerary also included visits to Parisian landmarks such as Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, and the Rue du Chat-qui-Pêche, along with a boat tour on the Seine River.
During their stay, the group also explored the Tuileries Garden and Place Vendôme. They had the surprise of meeting famous pastry chef Cédric Grolet, who offered them a piece of chocolate. The day continued at the Luxembourg Garden. On their final day, they visited the Museum of Illusion, had lunch at a Parisian bistro, and strolled through the Halles district, concluding with a visit to the Louvre Pyramid.
Despite a slight delay upon their return, the young elected officials arrived back in Canet-en-Roussillon on Wednesday evening, filled with numerous memories and a greater understanding of the Republic's institutions.
