A site visit to Grand Saint-Charles on Friday, September 18, 2026, marked a key step in planning the future of this major economic hub. Louis Aliot, president of Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole (PMM), accompanied by Frédéric Guillaumon, PMM vice-president, and Xavier Baudry, deputy mayor of Perpignan and community councilor, met with present public and private stakeholders.
The Saint-Charles 2040 project aims to establish a shared vision for the site's development, addressing key challenges: economic land development, improved mobility and circulation, evolving infrastructure and landscaping, attracting new businesses, boosting exports, training and recruitment, and transitioning to a circular and sustainable economy. The goal is to adapt the site to meet current business needs and support its growth in the coming decades.
Grand Saint-Charles plays a vital role in the agglomeration's economy. The Saint-Charles 2040 initiative seeks to enhance synergies between producers, businesses, transporters, and logistics chain actors. Developing local exports is also a major focus, aiming to facilitate trade and increase the site's attractiveness for new companies, reinforcing its position as a key economic and logistics hub.
This vision for 2040 is being built through close dialogue with companies and structures located on the site. During the visit, several partners were present, including Denis Ginard (PRIMSUD and president of SNIFL), Édouard Raymond (president of LOT), Julien Batlle (president of Saint-Charles Export), Sophie Prud’homme and Bernard Lasry (Perpignan Sud Eco), along with numerous other businesses from Grand Saint-Charles. These exchanges help identify needs and build shared orientations.
Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole has supported Grand Saint-Charles structures for 17 years, demonstrating continuous commitment to the site's economic development. The Métropole provides an annual support of €50,000 dedicated to exports and aims to maintain its involvement in guiding the site's evolution and enhancing its attractiveness.
With Saint-Charles 2040, the objective is to foster a common vision and define the next steps for transforming Grand Saint-Charles. Land, mobility, infrastructure, economic development, exports, ecological transition, training, and employment are key levers to sustainably strengthen the site's appeal and establish it as a major economic hub for Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole by 2040.
