From September 16 to 22, the Communauté de Communes Aubrac Carladez Viadène highlighted its mobility initiatives under the theme 'Combining Mobilities'. The intercommunal body brought together elected officials, partners, and local stakeholders on Friday, September 18, 2026, for an encouraging review of its efforts deployed since 2024, in collaboration with the Occitanie Region.
Nearly 50 people attended the presentation of positive results. A 'bouquet' of services, including on-demand transport, carpooling, car-sharing, and social/solidarity transport, is now operational. Micro-crèches also benefit from 'cargo bikes' for children's outdoor activities.
The Community of Communes' policy aims to 'combine mobility with proximity,' facilitating travel for 45% of residents over 60, combating social isolation, and offering alternatives to individual cars. Jean VALADIER emphasized the social dimension of mobility, contributing to both reducing isolation and ecological transition.
Since 2024, the Community of Communes has been awarded two calls for projects: 'Tims' and 'Avenir Montagne Mobilité,' enabling the mobilization of €488,000 for mobility, with 73% funded by programs and partners. These funds have made the current service deployment possible.
Solidarity transport, aimed at low-income individuals over 65 or those facing social vulnerability, has facilitated 331 trips for 204 registered users. Car-sharing, launched in February 2026 in Laguiole with an electric sedan, has 21 registered users and recorded 74 rentals. A second car-sharing station is being installed in Argences-en-Aubrac.
Carpooling, through 'Covoiturons en Aubrac Carladez Viadène' since summer 2025, has improved commute journeys and resulted in an average monthly saving of €90 per carpooler. The KAROS app facilitates user connections. Three cargo bikes are also used by micro-crèches, covering nearly 320 kilometers.
To promote these services, the brand 'Par là – Les mobilités qui nous rapprochent' (Over there – The mobilities that bring us closer) was created. 'France services' advisors inform residents about these services, accessible to everyone.
The Community of Communes has been awarded a new call for projects until 2028, the 'CIMAC,' which will sustain the momentum by extending social utility transport and deploying a car-sharing station in Mur-de-Barrez.
Emmanuelle GAZEL, Regional Councilor, praised the work accomplished, noting its alignment with the regional policy of inclusion and eco-mobility.
Three active carpooling users were honored during the meeting. Since summer 2025, carpooling has seen 53 registered users, nearly 2,400 trips, and 48,830 kilometers covered.
