The works undertaken around the Carcenac-Peyralès pond are progressing rapidly. Led by the watershed management authority EPAGE Viaur, this project aims to allow the stream to bypass the pond to limit water warming and thus preserve its quality. The principle involves diverting part of the watercourse to prevent it from directly crossing the pond, where water temperature can rise, especially during the summer. This warming can negatively impact water quality and the aquatic environment's balance.
On the ground, the developments have taken shape. A trench has been dug on the east bank of the pond to create this new passage for the stream. Near the road, a footbridge has been built to allow walkers to follow the water body on this bank, despite the new layout. A system to direct the water, either towards the pond or its diversion, has also been constructed.
While the majority of the work is now well advanced, the system will not be operational until next spring. Ultimately, this development will allow for better control of the stream's course and limit the warming of its waters, while maintaining accessibility to the pond's surroundings. This intervention thus combines water resource preservation with the maintenance of leisure activities around this popular site in Carcenac-Peyralès.
