The Jacques Puel Hospital Center in Rodez is enhancing its cardiology services by implementing two new interventional techniques: patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure and renal denervation, offering more localized care for patients in Aveyron.

These therapeutic advancements aim to provide new treatment options for patients in Aveyron, reducing the need to travel to more distant centers. The goal is to strengthen specialized healthcare services within the region.
Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) closure offers a new approach to preventing recurrent Strokes (AVC). A PFO is a persistent opening between the heart's atria. Its closure can help reduce the risk of recurrence in certain patients who have experienced a stroke and for whom this anomaly is implicated. The initial procedures were performed on October 8th by Drs. Blanc and Sanchis, members of the cardiology GCS team, in the presence of Prof. Elbaz, head of cardiology at Toulouse University Hospital.
Renal denervation provides a complementary therapeutic option for patients with resistant hypertension, where blood pressure remains difficult to control despite medication. This technique targets the nerves that regulate blood pressure. The first procedures took place on October 15th, performed by Dr. Ghenim, also part of the cardiology GCS team.
These new treatments highlight the commitment of the Jacques Puel Hospital Center to developing specialized care and improving the patient journey for those in Aveyron.
