During the holidays, SOM Handball and the Departmental Handball Committee offered an introduction to wheelchair handball, to highlight this discipline open to all, whether you have a disability or not. Twelve sports wheelchairs, loaned by the Departmental Handisport Committee, awaited participants at the Halle Marie Amelie Le Fur.
The athletes had to learn to master the specifics of the sports wheelchair to move forward, turn, and brake, during practical exercises.
Virginie Fabre, who initiated this day, explains that "able-bodied and disabled individuals can practice together very well". Since 2018, the club has been committed to an inclusive approach. Introduction days are offered at the Puits de Calès medico-educational institute, and training sessions for people affected by multiple sclerosis are organized every Friday.
Luc Pace, co-president of the club, emphasizes that "the Millau club is a pioneer in highlighting this practice". The objective is to form a para-handball team to participate in tournaments. The club is currently looking for 12 players.
A next discovery day for the different disciplines of para-handball will take place on November 11th, at the Halle Marie Amélie le Fur.
