At IMT Mines Alès, a new approach is revolutionizing complex systems engineering. The concept of the Digital Twin, distinct from the traditional digital mock-up, emerges as a powerful tool for product lifecycle management. Unlike mock-ups, which focus on the design phase, the digital twin is presented as a living model, continuously updated and perfectly synchronized with its physical counterpart.
This thesis work aims to define and design a tool-based methodology for the creation and maintenance of these digital twins. The objective is to overcome the current limitations of digital mock-ups, often confined to the design phase, to offer a comprehensive solution covering the entire lifecycle.
The study focuses on three main axes: the principle of construction and development of a digital twin, the rules for migrating from a digital mock-up to a digital twin, and finally, the maintenance strategy for the digital twin throughout its existence. Emphasis is placed on the realism and fidelity of the digital twin to the real system it represents.
