A weather alert has been issued for the Gard department, which will be placed under orange vigilance for Rain-Flooding and Storms starting this Wednesday, September 30th, at midnight. A yellow vigilance for Floods will also be in effect. During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, a significant rain and storm event is expected, initially affecting the Cévennes before spreading to the plains throughout Wednesday.
Precipitation totals could reach significant levels: from 200 to 250 mm in the highlands, with local peaks up to 300 mm. In the plains, rainfall could reach 150 mm locally, with a risk of stationary phenomena.
The following watercourses are under yellow vigilance for Floods: the Gardon d’Alès, the Gardon d’Anduze, the Cèze amont, and the Vidourle.
Consequently, the prefect of the Gard has decided to suspend all school transport across the entire department for Wednesday. Educational establishments will ensure minimal reception for any students who may be present.
The public is urged to exercise caution and limit travel. It is advised to seek shelter in a solid building, never to enter an immersed or partially immersed roadway, and not to cross a submersible bridge or a ford if it is closed or beginning to be submerged. State services are fully mobilized.
