Facing increasing pressure on water resources, the PETR Uzège Pont du Gard and the Gard Rhodanien Agglomeration are launching a study for a raw water hydraulic scheme, a priority for the territory.

The balanced and sustainable management of water has become a major priority for the Uzège and Pont du Gard territory, facing growing demand for agricultural, industrial, environmental, and domestic uses. Common raw water needs for agricultural irrigation and securing supplies for communities, particularly for firefighting, have led to cost sharing.
A financial convention has been signed to conduct a study across a coherent perimeter. This area includes the PETR Uzège Pont du Gard, the Gard Rhodanien agglomeration community, several municipalities within the Grand Avignon Agglomeration (Les Angles, Pujaut, Rochefort du Gard, Roquemaure, Saze, Sauveterre, Villeneuve Lez Avignon), and municipalities within Nîmes métropole (Sernhac, Saint Chaptes, Dions, Sainte Anastasie).
The objective of this study, initiated by the Gard Rhodanien Agglomeration Community (CAGR) and the PETR Uzège Pont du Gard, is to anticipate future needs and optimize the mobilization of available resources. It aims to establish a precise diagnosis of raw water requirements, inventory existing infrastructure and resources, and define technical, economic, and environmental scenarios for future raw water supply.
This initiative aligns with the orientations of the Water Development and Management Master Plan (SDAGE) and, where applicable, the Water Development and Management Plan (SAGE), as well as public policies for ecological transition and climate change adaptation. The PETR, covering the intercommunalities of Uzège and Pont du Gard (CCPU and CCPG), thus formalizes its technical and financial cooperation.
The initial findings of this study will be presented soon to the 50 mayors of the PETR Uzège Pont du Gard territory during the Mayors' conference.
