A public meeting was held in Lecques on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, where agents from EPTB Vidourle presented the challenges of water management on the river basin.

At the request of the Mayor of Lecques, Mr. Marc Duchenne, and the municipal council members, agents from EPTB Vidourle came to present the challenges of water management on the Vidourle river basin. This river, known for its floods during the Vidourlades, also serves as a vital biological corridor supporting rich biodiversity, including riparian vegetation, oxbow lakes, wetlands, and eroded banks suitable for bee-eater nesting. The presence of beavers, whose tracks are found near the bridge in Lecques, indicates a healthy ecosystem.
The EPTB implements various plans and programs aimed at protecting people and property from flood risk, reducing quantitative deficits in water resources, facilitating river flow, and promoting biodiversity. The work of the 'green team,' consisting of foresters who operate on riverbanks, is particularly noteworthy.
South of Lecques, an agroforestry plot runs along the river on the right bank. On the left bank, a deposition area (a pebble beach where trees have grown) along the river helps trap deadwood carried by floods, acting as a natural comb to prevent accumulation on bridges downstream.
The meeting, attended by about twenty citizens, was lively and participatory, highlighting the public's interest in preserving their river environment.
