In response to directives from the Prefecture, which issued a red flood alert for the Gard department starting at 6 AM, and considering the evolving weather conditions, the City of Nîmes has implemented its safeguard plan and crisis unit. Municipal services are actively monitoring the situation in real-time, in coordination with the ESPADA unit. A meeting was held at the hypervisor, attended by Vincent Bouget, Mayor of Nîmes and President of Nîmes Métropole, and Nicolas Nadal, Deputy Mayor for Security, to coordinate actions and adjust the response based on forecasts of worsening conditions expected in the early afternoon.
In accordance with safety guidelines, several measures have been taken by the municipality. All municipal facilities, including those for minors, are closed. No children are currently being accommodated in municipal structures such as daycares (ALSH) and nurseries. The Education Department has contacted all affected families. The CCAS (Communal Social Action Center) has reached out to individuals identified in its database of vulnerable persons and seniors to check on their situation and provide necessary instructions.
Nîmes Métropole has also closed several of its services: the Agglomeration's waste disposal centers, the Nemausa Nautical Stadium, the DCTDM User Relations department, Nîmes Métropole reception areas and the Maison de l'habitat, La SMAC Paloma, and the Vélo Tango Agency. The Tango network has suspended its services this Wednesday, September 30. Waste collection is postponed to the next day; residents are asked not to put out their bins and bags tonight. NemoVélo has blocked all its bicycles at stations to prevent their use.
