Every year, the month of October is dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in France. This year, Nîmes University is actively participating in the 32nd edition of Pink October, an initiative taking place from Thursday, October 1st to Saturday, October 31st, 2026. The goal is to provide information on screening and support medical research.
Health professionals, NGOs, and associations worldwide are mobilizing to inform about breast cancer screening. It is estimated that one in eight women will be affected by this disease during her lifetime. Early detection allows nine out of ten women to recover within five years, highlighting the crucial importance of prevention.
Throughout October, numerous events are planned to support medical and scientific research and raise awareness about early detection. Information leaflets on prevention actions will be available from October 1st at several university locations: the reception areas of the Vauban, Carmes, and Hoche sites, the Student Health Center, the Professional Information and Integration Aid Office, the Department of Studies and Student Life, and the University Library. Pink ribbons will also be distributed in these same locations.
On October 12th, in front of the Sport Health Nutrition center at the Vauban site, several events will take place. At 12:45 PM, a photo challenge will invite everyone to wear pink. Accessories in Pink October colors will be available. From 12 PM to 5 PM, student midwives, supported by the Student Health Center, will conduct awareness sessions on breast self-examination and screening information for students and staff.
A university student has also launched a fundraising campaign for the Ligue contre le cancer (League Against Cancer), with all proceeds going to the organization. A call for general mobilization has been issued.
