Following a successful launch day on Thursday, October 1st, Pink October is offering numerous events in Villefranche-de-Rouergue. The goal is twofold: to raise public awareness about breast cancer and to collect funds to support the cause, while also enlivening the town with various activities.
In France, over 61,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year, leading to approximately 12,000 deaths annually. However, early detection significantly increases the chances of recovery.
For this edition, the Mairie de Villefranche-de-Rouergue and its partners are actively mobilizing. The proceeds from the organized actions will be donated to Le Cocon Aveyronnais, a local association dedicated to the well-being and support of patients, as well as to La Ligue contre le cancer (The League Against Cancer).
The program spans the entire month of October and includes diverse events: a launch day with awareness stands on October 1st, a disco evening on October 3rd, a prevention stand at the market on October 8th, a cheese, wine, and regional products fair on October 10th and 11th, and the race La Villefranchoise (hiking, mountain biking, road cycling) on October 11th. A gathering of sports and prestige cars is also scheduled for the same day at La Madeleine.
Other activities are planned, such as a collective sports-vitality class on October 12th, a awareness show on October 13th, a nighttime badminton tournament on October 17th, a sports afternoon in the city center on October 23rd, and a women's 7-a-side rugby tournament on October 24th. The month will conclude with a food truck and activities for young people on October 29th.
Photo exhibitions, a selection of books at La Manufacture, and donations of pink clothing to La Croix-Rouge (Red Cross) complete the program throughout the month. The campaign will conclude on November 5th with the handover of the collected funds to Le Cocon Aveyronnais.
The town hall thanks its numerous partners for their support of this solidarity initiative.
