Following an initial phase of work in 2023, the municipality of Rochefort-du-Gard is continuing the safety improvements on the RD 111 with a new 900-meter section, located between Chemin de la Filature and Chemin d’Agan. This project aims to reduce vehicle speeds, improve pedestrian safety, and facilitate access to public transport.
Planned improvements include the undergrounding of overhead networks, the creation of draining sidewalks to secure pedestrian paths, the renovation of bus stops in consultation with Grand Avignon, and the installation of more energy-efficient public lighting. These interventions will modernize this road axis while improving traffic conditions and the safety of all users.
The project, presented in April 2025 in the municipal review, required several administrative and technical steps. The Municipal Council adopted resolutions to apply for subsidies and define the intervention methods of partners such as Grand Avignon and the Syndicat mixte d’électricité du Gard (SMEG). A public meeting in May 2026 presented the planned developments to local residents.
Work will commence in November 2026 with the first phase dedicated to undergrounding networks, managed by SMEG. Roadway interventions will follow from early 2027 for an estimated duration of nine months. Traffic conditions will be adapted with temporary measures, including traffic lights, to allow work to proceed while maintaining circulation.
The Municipality thanks residents and motorists for their understanding regarding the temporary disruptions caused by these essential improvements for road safety. Project plans are available on the municipality's website.
