“"With this citizen project driven by our youth, Gers sees an initiative from its Participatory Budget, combining mobility, autonomy, and intergenerational solidarity, rewarded at the highest national level. A recognition that reminds us that citizen participation is not limited to giving an opinion: it also provides young people with the means to develop useful projects and transform their daily lives, on their scale."

Five young people from the Sarthé center in Gers have won the first national ANACEJ prize for their project 'Solidarity, Sustainable, and Inclusive Mobility in Sarthé', renamed 'Wheels of Hope'.
A prestigious distinction was awarded in Paris, at the Ministry of Overseas Territories, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The project, led by five young people from the Sarthé center, was recognized in the 'Citizen Engagement' category by the National Association of Children and Youth Councils (ANACEJ). Departmental Councilor for Citizen Democracy, Hélène Rozis-Le Breton, was present for the award ceremony.
This initiative, a winner of the Gers Participatory Budget #3, aims to enhance autonomy and social connection in rural areas. The core idea is to provide electric scooters or bikes to young people facing difficulties, in exchange for services rendered to the village's elderly residents. These actions, such as running errands or providing visits, help young people gain independence while combating the isolation of seniors. The project, supported by the center's director and the Gers Departmental Council, thus combines sustainable mobility, social inclusion, and intergenerational solidarity.
The project had already convinced residents during the third edition of the Gers Participatory Budget, securing 319 votes and €11,440 in funding for the Lomagne-Fleurance canton. Its application was subsequently submitted for the 16th edition of the ANACEJ Awards in May 2026.
This recognition highlights the effectiveness of an initiative already proven in the field, which can be replicated elsewhere. It particularly emphasizes the capacity of young people to devise solutions tailored to their territory's needs and to act concretely for the collective good.
The National Association of Children and Youth Councils (ANACEJ), founded in 1991, works to recognize children and young people as full citizens. Since 2011, its awards have recognized initiatives that strengthen their participation in public decisions and their engagement in local life.
