The municipality of Samatan has reinstated night public lighting, a campaign promise aimed at enhancing resident safety.

The measure, unanimously approved by the municipal council on October 7th, involves restoring public lighting from 11 PM to 5 AM. This decision came into effect on the night of Tuesday, October 27th, to Wednesday, October 28th.
The system operates using astronomical clocks synchronized with Radio France. Streetlight intensity is set at 100% (approximately 54 W) from sunset, then reduced to 50% for 8 hours, typically between 10 PM and 6 AM for a lighting period from 6 PM to 7 AM.

"It was a strong demand during the election campaign, and even until now. People complained about being plunged into total darkness after activities, like bingo for example. Some even fell... So it seemed common sense to relight the streetlights for safety reasons."

Alexandre Duval · Mayor of Samatan
Alexandre Duval, Mayor of Samatan, explained that this measure responds to a demand from residents who complained about the lack of safety in complete darkness. He highlighted that the additional cost, estimated at less than €3,000 per year by the Gers Electrification Syndicate, is reasonable considering the comfort and safety provided.
The municipality encourages citizens to report any lighting malfunctions in their street or neighborhood by contacting the town hall or using the IntraMuros application.
