The municipality of Castelnau-d'Estrétefonds has received the "Territory Committed to Nature" award for the 2025-2028 period. The distinction was presented on Tuesday, September 22, at the Occitanie Regional Council by Étienne Fréjefond, director of the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) Occitanie. Denis Brun, first deputy mayor, Loïc Constans, delegated councilor for the environment, and Cathy Solomas, head of Sustainable Development, were present to receive this honor.
This labeling, awarded by the OFB, recognizes three new actions undertaken by the town: the de-sealing and renaturation of the courtyard at Daniel Dupuy school, the creation of an educational terrestrial area, and the integration of the results from the Communal Biodiversity Atlas into the future Local Urban Plan (PLU). The latter two initiatives are already well underway.
This recognition highlights the coherence of the town's projects and its commitment to biodiversity, integrated into its urban, social, and cultural policies. The laureate municipalities, including Castelnau-d'Estrétefonds, Lalbenque, and Ramonville, were able to exchange on their respective best practices during a meeting in the presence of Cécile Bedel from the Regional Biodiversity Agency (ARB).
