A prefectural order, effective from Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 8:00 AM, introduces new water management and usage restriction measures in the Haute-Garonne department.

The order provides for an easing of restrictions on the Sor basin (including the drinking water management area of the Montagne Noire) and the Tarn river, which are now placed under vigilance. These watercourses benefit from reduced constraints due to a slight improvement in their condition.
However, for other watercourses and sectors of the department, the measures remain unchanged. Restrictions vary depending on the source of the water drawn: from rivers and accompanying groundwater, or from the public water supply network.
For withdrawals from rivers and accompanying groundwater, the situation is as follows: the Garonne upstream of Portet-sur-Garonne (Garonne Sud, Garonne Médiane), the Tescou, the Ru du Maudan, the Volp, the Aussonelle, the Salat basin, the Arbas basin, the Ger basin, rivers connected to the Neste canal and its derivative canals including the Aussoue river, and all small watercourses in ONDE sectors, are in a crisis situation. Reinforced alert applies to the Lèze, Arize basin, the Saune, the Ariège and the Hers Vif, the Garonne Nord and the Garonne lateral canal. The rest of the department is under vigilance.
Regarding uses from the public water supply network, a crisis affects the management zones of the Salat, the Garonne upstream of Portet-sur-Garonne (Garonne Sud, Garonne Médiane), the Saint-Martory Canal, and six specific municipalities: Francazal, Estadens, Boutx, Razecueille, Argut-Dessous, and Binos. A reinforced alert applies to the management zones of the Ariège, Arize, and Garonne Nord (including the lateral canal), as well as communes supplied by the water syndicate of the Job valley. The rest of the department is under vigilance, with usage limitations.
