For the 2026 European Heritage Days, held on September 19 and 20, the CHU de Toulouse once again opened its doors to the public. Forty-three volunteers, including active staff, retirees, and association members, dedicated their time to welcome visitors, present, and recount the institution's historical roots.
The Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques and the Hôpital Saint-Joseph de La Grave allowed the curious public to discover or rediscover the rich hospital heritage of Toulouse.
This year, specific themes were highlighted. Volunteers from the ACSJOccitanie association presented "The Pilgrimage of Saint James of Compostela, Yesterday and Today" in the Salle des Colonnes, while the French Agency for the Ways of Compostela offered a presentation in the Salle des Pèlerins.
The usual guided tours were renewed, taking visitors from the 1960s Operating Theatre to the Museums of the Hôtel-Dieu. The presentation of the completed restoration of the Garonne facade, from the Pont-Neuf to the Baric building, was also part of the program.
At the Hôpital Saint-Joseph de La Grave, the public benefited from guided tours of the Historical Square, rediscovering an establishment rich in history and memories of care.
The success of these days is attributed to the voluntary commitment of hospital staff and association members, as well as the logistical support provided by the hospital. A thank you was extended to them.
