As part of the Garonne riverbank development project, the Town of Portet-sur-Garonne is offering residents the opportunity to collect free mulch from the felled trees. This natural mulch can be used in gardens, at the base of trees, and in flowerbeds to protect plants and reduce watering needs.
The poplar woodchip collection will take place on Saturday, October 31st, at the bottom of Rue du Comminges. Hours are from 9 AM to 12 PM in the morning and from 1:30 PM to 4 PM in the afternoon. This offer is exclusively for Portet residents upon presentation of proof of address. Residents must bring their own equipment for loading and transportation.
Using poplar woodchip as mulch offers several benefits: it retains soil moisture, reduces water evaporation, lowers irrigation needs, inhibits the growth of unwanted weeds, and moderates soil temperature fluctuations.
