A new prefectural order, dated September 26, 2026, places the municipality of Roquettes in a water crisis situation. The measures aim to preserve water resources in the face of persistent drought.
Regarding withdrawals from rivers and visible accompanying groundwater tables, agricultural irrigation is prohibited. Exceptions may apply for certain crops, but the prohibition on withdrawals is in effect 3.5 days per week, with specific time slots: from Monday 8 AM to Tuesday 8 AM, from Wednesday 8 AM to Thursday 8 AM, on Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM, and from Saturday 8 AM to Sunday 8 AM.
Uses related to drinking water are also subject to significant restrictions. Watering vegetable gardens is prohibited between 08:00 and 20:00. Lawns, flowerbeds, and ornamental gardens cannot be watered, except for trees and shrubs under three years old, which are limited to two waterings per week between 8 PM and 8 AM.
Watering sports fields is prohibited, with the exception of those of national or international importance, which may be watered twice a week between 8 PM and 8 AM. Washing private vehicles and nautical equipment, as well as cleaning facades, roofs, sidewalks, and other impermeable surfaces, are also forbidden.
Finally, filling family swimming pools, including topping them up, is prohibited. Supplying public and private ornamental fountains with open circuits is also forbidden.
