With bags and containers in hand, the residents of Lourdes met on Wednesday, October 14th, at the Jardin des Tilleuls for the new edition of 'Adopt a Plant'. This highly anticipated autumn event allows residents to leave with plants from municipal flowerbeds free of charge.
The principle is simple: plants removed from the City's flowerbeds are not discarded. Twice a year, in spring and autumn, municipal greenhouse staff pull out plants that have reached the end of their cycle to install new ones. Mostly perennial and hardy, these plants are offered to individuals, who give them a new life in their gardens, on their balconies, or terraces.
'Adopt a Plant' is also an economical and ecological gesture: less green waste, plants already acclimatized to the local territory, and a financial boost for amateur gardeners.
This year, a new rule has been introduced: each participant can take home a maximum of five plants. The objective is straightforward: to ensure equitable distribution so that everyone can take the same number of plants.
Élodie De Luca-Courtade, municipal councilor in charge of public space beautification, and Jeannine Borde, deputy mayor responsible for associative life, were present to support the operation and interact with the residents.
