The signing took place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in the presence of Thierry Lavit, Mayor of Lourdes, Julien Estrade, lieutenant and head of the SDIS 65 center, and Sébastien Guillaumot, commander, who presented the charter's main commitments.
According to Sébastien Guillaumot, this charter represents "a moral and concrete commitment, aimed at strengthening collective action and facilitating the daily work of firefighters." He highlighted the importance of preparing communities to respond effectively to emergencies.
The City of Lourdes commits through several axes: promoting the availability of volunteer firefighters, fostering a culture of prevention with the Communal Safeguard Plan and DICRIM, training municipal agents in life-saving techniques, and considering the creation of a communal civil security reserve. Support for firefighters' associations is also confirmed.
Thierry Lavit recalled the quality of the long-standing relationship between the municipality and the firefighters, welcoming the formalization of this partnership through a written commitment. He also mentioned the recent transfer of teams to their new barracks, a significant moment for the town.
“"There has been a relational tradition here for a very long time, a very good understanding between the firefighters and the town."
With this charter, Lourdes aims to consolidate the links between municipal services and rescue teams, encourage volunteering, and develop prevention reflexes within the community.
