The month of October is dedicated to raising awareness for early breast cancer screening and supporting research. In Frontignan la Peyrade, a collective effort marked by numerous initiatives is taking place throughout the month. The town, local businesses, sports clubs, and associations continue their commitment, exemplified by ASFAC, whose teams wear pink during home games.
Among the upcoming events: on Mondays October 5 and 12, the Cercle Andalou offers a rumba initiation workshop at the Vincent-Giner seniors' center, with sales of fans and scarves benefiting Pink October. On Friday, October 9, the Jean-Piaget care home organizes a solidarity walk with sales of pink ribbons made by residents.
On Tuesday, October 13, Scopie / La Hune and Femmes en Languedoc-Roussillon are organizing a discussion session on screening for breast and cervical cancer at La Hune (23 av. F. Mistral), led by a volunteer doctor from the Ligue contre le Cancer. On Saturday, October 17, the association Carma Family offers a health and well-being assessment at rue du Négoce (by registration).
Other events are scheduled for Tuesday, October 20: activities and sales of merchandise at the solidarity café (Génération MDR, rue Anatole-France) by the association Vivre à la maison de retraite, as well as a screening of the film Coutures by Alice Winocour at the Quai des Lumières cinema, followed by a discussion with health professionals. On Friday, October 30, a solidarity lottery will be held at the Espace de Vie Sociale Albert-Calmette (EVS).
On weekends throughout the month, the Studio offers Pilates, Heels dance, and yoga workshops benefiting the MIS, organized by the association YogaMoon and O’Studio. Throughout the month, volunteers from the EVS are selling handmade items at local markets to benefit the MIS and the Ligue contre le Cancer.
Seamstresses from the EVS, as well as sewing sections from ACAL and Ciseaux et Dés d’Argent, are creating heart cushions, catheter covers, and chemotherapy bonnets for women undergoing surgery. The association Un Point C’est Tout will decorate the Marceline Dentel shop window in Pink October colors.
These actions aim to raise awareness, promote prevention, and support research. The key message is that prevention saves lives, as highlighted by David Jardon, municipal councilor responsible for sports, public health, and disability.
