The Blue Week, celebrating its 75th edition from October 5 to 11, 2026, highlights the place of seniors in society and strengthens intergenerational bonds. In Hérault, the Department is committed daily to enabling seniors to age well, preserve their autonomy, and support their caregiver relatives.
To facilitate daily life at home, the Personalized Autonomy Allowance (APA) is for individuals aged 60 and over who need assistance with daily living activities. It can fund services such as home help, meal delivery, tele-alarm systems, technical equipment, or home adaptation work. Additional aid, like domestic help or meal delivery support, may be granted under certain conditions for those not receiving APA.
The Department also supports prevention initiatives to maintain the health, capabilities, and social life of seniors living at home. These programs cover adapted physical activity, fall prevention, nutrition, memory, digital access, and combating isolation, aiming to maintain autonomy and social connection.
Caregiver relatives, essential to supporting seniors with loss of autonomy, benefit from listening, advice, and respite solutions. The Department can fund respite solutions under APA and grant temporary aid in case of the caregiver's hospitalization. Local actions also offer information, support, and training.
When living at home becomes challenging, several accommodation options are available: assisted living residences, dependent-care facilities (EHPAD), temporary housing, or family-based care. The APA for establishments and social housing aid can contribute to costs. Inclusive housing offers another possibility for living in adapted ordinary housing while sharing spaces and convivial moments with others.
The Departmental Autonomy House (MDA), with its eight reception points across Hérault, informs, guides, and supports seniors experiencing loss of autonomy and their relatives in their procedures and search for suitable solutions.
