This Monday, October 12th, at the Espace Georges Brassens, Lunel's 16 new Children's City Councilors officially took office for the 2026-2027 school year.

The installation ceremony for the Children's City Council took place this Monday, October 12th, at the Espace Georges Brassens, attended by parents, teachers, principals, elected officials from the City of Lunel, community members, and the Gendarmerie. This solemn moment marked the first official meeting of the 16 young elected officials, 8 boys and 8 girls, chosen by their peers to represent them throughout the 2026-2027 school year. This term also features a perfect gender balance across school levels, with 8 CM1 and 8 CM2 students, a first!
Paulette Gougeon, Mayor of Lunel, opened the ceremony by addressing the young councilors: 'Throughout your term, you will do exactly as the adults do! You will think together, propose projects, debate, vote, and see your ideas turn into concrete actions to improve life in our city. You will discover that democracy means knowing how to listen, exchange, and build together.' She then emphasized the value of their perspective on the city, encouraging them to be curious, creative, and not afraid to voice their opinions.
The young elected officials then took the floor to introduce themselves, before officially receiving their tricolor sashes from Paulette Gougeon, under the watchful eyes of the previous term's council members. The ceremony concluded with the assembly singing La Marseillaise and a toast to friendship.
The newspaper wishes these young elected officials a successful term with meaningful achievements for their city.
