In Toulouges, the Miyawaki forest project enters its first phase, inviting residents to actively participate in its creation over two years.

The Miyawaki forest project, led by Aurélie Pastor-Barnéoud, deputy responsible for sustainable development, and presented to residents during the European Sustainable Development Week, is beginning its creation phase. This project, supported by the “Passiflore” nursery and the “Le peuple de l’arbre” association, aims to transform a 2000 m² area into a dense urban forest.
Inspired by the method of Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, this future forest will use densely planted local species. The objective is to promote biodiversity, create a cool island, contribute to carbon storage, and improve residents' quality of life. The town, accompanied by Mayor Nicolas Barthe and numerous elected officials, is committed to this collective initiative.
Before the large collective planting scheduled for October 2028, a two-year period will be dedicated to soil preparation and the growth of young saplings. During this phase, residents will be involved in the project through various workshops organized at the Maison du citoyen.
These workshops will include outings for seed collection and sessions for preparation and cultivation. A first step has already seen 50 young trees entrusted to volunteer residents, who will care for them until March 2027, when they will be initially planted on the site.
The project will develop progressively, allowing residents to follow each stage of this new forest's birth and become key players, from seed to tree.
