The Pink October campaign, aimed at raising public awareness about breast cancer screening and collecting funds for research, has been held annually in France since 1994. This year, Beaumont-de-Lomagne chose Saturday, October 17th, to organize its participation in this public service event. The organization was entrusted to Kézérine VAN DER MAESEN, deputy for social affairs.
The day began at 9 AM in Place Gambetta, in the heart of the market, with an inaugural speech by the mayor, Ms. Tonin, who highlighted the importance of the day. The constituency's deputy, Ms. Hamelet, also spoke, sharing her personal recovery experience and commending the town's commitment.
Throughout the day, charitable associations dedicated to breast cancer prevention were present. Sports demonstrations, including bodyTonic, boxing, and self-defense, took place starting at 9:30 AM at the Fermat Museum. The afternoon featured a hike from 2 PM to 4 PM around the lake, followed by a large aerial photo on the football field where participants formed the Pink October ribbon.
Later in the day, a "women's voices" workshop was held in the town hall entrance, offering a more intimate exchange. The day concluded with a concert by students from the music school, who presented a performance of singing and various instrumental pieces. Donations collected during this event will be given to the Oncopole.
The organizers thanked all the stakeholders who contributed to the day, highlighting the successful combination of conviviality and prevention. The event's key message, the importance of early breast cancer screening, remains relevant year-round.
