The President of the Communauté de communes and the mayor of Saint Loup officially inaugurated the Chappe Tower on October 16th, a remarkable heritage site representing ancient communication methods.

The Chappe Tower, a unique heritage element, was officially inaugurated on October 16th by the President of the Communauté de communes and the mayor of Saint Loup, in the presence of elected officials and residents. This structure recalls the importance of the aerial telegraph network that revolutionized information transmission in the 18th and 19th centuries.
In the past, a network of 534 towers covered 5000 km of lines in France. Today, only about twenty of these towers remain. The Communauté de communes, in collaboration with the municipality of Saint Loup, has undertaken the renovation of this tower to preserve this unusual heritage.
Conceived by Claude Chappe in 1791, this invention enabled the rapid transmission of political and administrative information. Educational panels are now freely accessible near the tower to learn about its history.
Guided tours of the interior of the Chappe Tower are available for groups by prior reservation, at a cost of €3 per person. For more information, contact the Tourist Office at 05 63 39 89 82.
