The Citizen Compost Network is launching the 4th edition of the Living Soil Festival, a national event taking place from October 3 to 17, 2026. The goal is to introduce citizens to garden biodegradable waste management practices, such as handling lawn clippings, hedge trimmings, branches, and vegetable garden plant remains.
The main challenge of this event is to integrate the management of plant waste into gardening practices that are respectful of the environment and health. In Millau, the program offered by Causses Compost runs from October 3 to 18, 2026.
Among the planned events, the Departmental Biodegradable Waste Day in Aveyron will be held on October 6, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the PNRGC hall in Millau. Organized by the Occitanie Compost Citizen Network, this day will include a networking and mutual learning session, as well as a 'Compos'tour' with visits to several local sites and projects. A bio, local, and seasonal meal will be offered upon registration.
Other events are scheduled: a Talk on Compost Uses on October 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the small hall in Nant, open to all and organized by the Community of Communes Millau Grands Causses. A drop-in session by Causses Compost will also be held at the shared site of the Sully Chaliès quays in Millau on October 4, 10, and 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Finally, a workshop titled "Preparing Your Garden for Winter" is scheduled for October 17 at the Potager du Chateau de Sambucy in Millau. Led by gardener Antoine Mora, this workshop will involve sharing techniques and knowledge regarding garden preparation for the winter season. This event is reserved for the referents of the sites of the ComCom Millau Grands Causses.
