The municipality of Saint-Privat-des-Vieux has completed the deployment of its video surveillance network, comprising 19 cameras across 14 strategic sites, marking a key step in its overall security policy.

After several months of studies and development, the commune of Saint-Privat-des-Vieux is taking a new step in its comprehensive security policy with the completion of its video surveillance network. This major project, initiated nearly two years ago, now features 19 cameras spread across 14 strategic locations. Developed in close collaboration with the national gendarmerie, this master plan is scalable and can be expanded to up to 36 cameras if needed.
The deployment was carried out in two main phases: the first, in 2025, focused on protecting priority sensitive sites such as the three school groups, the town hall, and the municipal police station. The second phase, recently completed, has established coverage of the main roads and strategic axes of the communal territory. The total investment amounts to €185,988.63 excluding tax, with financial support from the State of €42,694.68 through the Interministerial Fund for Crime Prevention (FIPD).
Centralized in a secure supervision post, the images strictly adhere to legal frameworks and respect privacy, with the municipality specifying that no video-fines are issued. The system is already yielding results, having contributed to identifying perpetrators of a burglary, issuing a fine for urban rodeo driving, and resolving an environmental incivility case.

"Video surveillance is not intended to replace human presence. It serves as an additional tool for prevention, deterrence, and investigation assistance for public tranquility and the protection of residents."

Philippe Ribot · Mayor of Saint-Privat-des-Vieux
This network complements a comprehensive municipal strategy developed over the past three years to enhance the living environment, focusing on strengthening human resources with the recruitment of a second municipal police officer, equipping and training agents, close cooperation with the gendarmerie, and citizen mobilization through the Citizen Participation initiative. The municipality and law enforcement also remain vigilant regarding domestic violence, a major national issue.
