Throughout the month of November, the town of Lourdes renews its commitment to Movember, the international movement dedicated to raising awareness about men's health. The keep of the Château fort – Musée pyrénéen will be lit in blue, the symbolic color for the fight against male cancers, while the "Lourdes" sign on the Europe roundabout will feature decorations specially designed by municipal staff.
The choice of blue is not arbitrary. This color, symbolizing the ribbon for men's cancer awareness, has become the emblem for men's health campaigns, similar to the pink ribbon for breast cancer in October.
Originating in Australia in 2003, Movember has become a major global event held annually in November. The initiative invites participants to grow a moustache for thirty days to raise public awareness and collect funds for three key men's health causes: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.
Beyond growing a moustache, Movember encourages men to adopt regular physical activity, break the taboo surrounding their mental health, and undergo preventive medical screenings.
