The Gers Departmental Council is progressing with the 2x2 lane development of the RD1124 between Gimont and L’Isle-Jourdain. Elected officials reviewed land management and environmental compensation measures on October 16, 2026. Commissioning is scheduled for early 2027.

The construction of the RD1124 between Gimont and L’Isle-Jourdain, a 2x2 lane development, is nearing its completion. This infrastructure aims to connect Auch to Toulouse continuously on two lanes, improving travel time, traffic flow, and user safety. Since the transfer of national roads to the Department on January 1, 2024, the Gers Departmental Council has been managing this project.
The first phase, focusing on structures and diversion routes, concluded in early 2025. In 2026, connections to the Gimont and L’Isle-Jourdain interchanges marked a significant step. Work is now concentrated on final earthworks, safety features, drainage, signage, and finishing touches, prior to compliance checks and commissioning preparations, expected in early 2027.
The project also involves managing land reserves established by SAFER. An amendment to the agreement, voted on October 16, 2026, updates the financing and monitoring arrangements for acquired properties. Furthermore, environmental compensation measures are being implemented, including the acquisition of 19.9 hectares of woodland in the communes of Maravat and Sainte-Gemme to meet prefectural order requirements.
The overall investment for this project amounts to 142 million euros, funded 55% by local authorities and 45% by the State, with partnerships including the Occitanie Region and relevant intercommunalities. The goal is to sustainably improve daily travel, enhance safety, and facilitate exchanges between Auch, the L'Isle-Jourdain living area, and the Toulouse metropolitan area.
“

"With the RD1124, we are fulfilling a commitment made to the people of Gers: to complete a development that has been awaited for decades and is essential for the future of our territory. Our political will is clear: to see this structuring project through, fully assuming the Department's responsibilities, both in terms of land and environment. This investment of 142 million euros, supported by the State and our territorial partners, must sustainably improve safety and daily travel. We are preparing the future without shying away from our obligations, particularly regarding biodiversity preservation. Our course remains the same: to keep our promises and put this infrastructure at the service of the inhabitants, businesses, and the attractiveness of Gers."
