The Ligne Nouvelle du Sud-Ouest (LNSO) project enjoys broad support in the region, according to a study conducted by Toluna for the LNSO Agency. 85% of Southwest France residents declare themselves in favor of the LNSO, and 83% deem it useful. This support reflects a positive perception of the project, far from being considered abstract or reserved for major cities.
Residents see the LNSO as a project serving the territory, with 49% citing Southwest France inhabitants as the main beneficiaries, ahead of local businesses (34%) and tourists (29%). The expected benefits in terms of mobility are particularly highlighted: 86% of residents anticipate an improvement in exchanges between Bordeaux and Toulouse, and 84% foresee better service for medium-sized towns and areas near stations.
The project is also seen as a catalyst for international exchanges. 81% believe it will improve links between Spain and Southwest France, and 77% that it will strengthen the territory's European connectivity. More broadly, 88% think the LNSO will bring Southwest France cities closer to the rest of France and Spain, thereby fostering exchanges and tourism.
On a personal level, 72% of respondents anticipate a positive impact for themselves and their loved ones, and 78% believe the LNSO will enable them to better connect with other cities in Southwest France. These results confirm that the expected benefits of the LNSO are associated with concrete dimensions: connecting the territories of Southwest France, facilitating travel within France, and strengthening exchanges with Spain and Europe.
The survey was conducted online by Toluna from September 11 to 23, 2026, among 2,000 individuals representative of the former Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrénées regions.
