The Local Food Mixed Technology Network (RMT Alimentation Locale) is entering its third programming phase for the 2026-2030 period. This initiative aims to consolidate and expand collective expertise on the reterritorialization of food systems, building on an enlarged network and reinforced cooperation with other RMTs. Led by INRAE and co-managed by Chambres d'agriculture France, this program is supported by nine partner organizations.
Since its creation in 2015, the Local Food RMT has brought together stakeholders from research, education, and agricultural and rural development. Its mission is to produce and share knowledge, tools, and training to promote the reterritorialization of food systems, thereby contributing to their sustainability and resilience. Figures highlight this momentum: the share of French agricultural holdings selling through short supply chains increased from 19.8% in 2010 to 26.3% in 2020, representing 109,215 holdings. Concurrently, the number of identified Territorial Food Projects (PAT) has nearly doubled, reaching almost 450 by the end of August 2026.
For this new edition (2026-2030), INRAE – UMR Innovation will lead the network, with co-management by Chambres d'agriculture France. The management team will include nine partner structures from research, agricultural higher education, and territorial development. The main objectives of this programming include producing knowledge on current dynamics, developing training tools and content, identifying research-development questions, and formulating proposals for public action.
The network connects researchers, educators, and agricultural and rural development actors, facilitating the emergence of research and development projects with national and European funders. It also provides practical resources such as guides, digital tools, and training. The Observatory of Territorialized Food Systems (obsat.org) informs public policy by sharing data on the reterritorialization of food systems. The network's work is available on www.rmt-alimentation-locale.org and disseminated via LinkedIn and a newsletter.
